Dark Clouds Sketch

I’m back! It’s been a while. A lot has been going on and still is but, I missed you all and needed to write so here goes. I’ve been focusing on my socials lately and updating the website with some of my latest artworks. Things have been going well but I’ve missed writing. If you don’t follow me on Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok or YouTube, you probably haven’t seen my latest works. I’ve been posting video’s once a week either on Friday or Saturday morning. If you haven’t subscribed yet to my YouTube it would be great if you did.

I’ve been studying the clouds, this isn’t new though it began a few years back as me just taking pictures of the clouds and has now turned into sketches of clouds. You know me, I like trying different mediums so there will be a video and post all about chalk pastel clouds. For now though let us discuss the charcoal pencil sketch video below. It took a while to get it how I wanted it. There was a lot of adding and then lightening or darkening parts of the clouds for contrast. I know you want to see the video but don’t runaway yet though. Follow my art process first and then click on the video below.

As you will see in the video I started out by adding a few of the clouds using my graphite pencils and smudging and blending them in. Tissue paper and Q-Tips are my go too’s for smudging and blending. I especially like using the q-tips for the small details. I started out by using the lightest pencils first and then added in the darkest parts with my darkest pencils.

As I got further into the sketch I then used my trusty charcoal sticks and a piece of paper to make sure I didn’t blend anything that wasn’t meant to be blended over. The sticks added in some really great contrast throughout the sketch. From there I again used my charcoal eraser and began removing some of the shading to brighten the highlighted areas. The charcoal sticks were used again to add in the finishing touches.

This artwork took time and every now and then I walked away and came back to it. While watching the video you can see subtle light changes on the paper I was sketching on that’s because I prefer to sketch using natural light. Most times when the sun goes down I pack up but with this one I was caught off guard.

Just like with writing, walking away is a great way to really knowing if you are on the right path. So don’t be afraid to walk away, do something else even if its only for a few minutes. When you get back to it there may be things you feel can be changed or even parts that you really love that you want to make stand out even more. Make changes or continue where you left off.

Check out the video and let me know what you think? Don’t forget to head over to the Palm Trees and Loyalties Gallery to see what’s new!

I will be posting every other week again. So, thank you so much for joining me today, stay safe and have a great two weeks ahead!

Update

September has floated by. Its strange because I swear it just started but look at us now. I have some news for you all. Some of you may have noticed that my social media profiles have been updated. As part of that my news is that I will no longer be posting a weekly blog. I’m going to take a step back and post every other week instead. The reason for this change is that I need to focus on my art. I love writing too but my art is calling me and I have to answer. I’ll still be around though supporting my fellow bloggers so not to worry.

In the interest of putting my art first I will be doing more sketch or drawing posts. So you will notice more changes to the Palm Trees and Loyalties blog as 2020 comes to an end. I Hope that you all will stick with me in this new journey. If you have suggestions for things you’d like to see me draw let me know. Also, I have added a donate button at the bottom of my posts. You can now donate towards buying me art supplies. Or buy my art on Redbubble if you so choose.

Here goes, I’m off to add to my Redbubble and the Palm Trees and Loyalties Gallery.

By the way I have added another video to my YouTube Channel. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for joining me today and I will see you on September the 31st. Haha just kidding, see you on Sunday the 27th.

Pepper Sketch

Hi Everyone,

I have an announcement to make! For the first time ever, I’ve uploaded a You Tube video of myself sketching a pepper. Check it out, like, share. If you’re more comfortable leaving comments on my blog rather than on my Channel that’s great too.

I’m excited to let you know that there will be more of these coming soon.

Also, shout out to Matic Entertainment for the music!

5 Things No One Will Tell You About Ladybugs

Ladybug, Art, Red, beetle, Ladybird beetle
Beautiful, shiny, red, lady bug. hand drawn and coloured.

I had decided to draw for Sunday’s blog post long before my technical difficulties. But we all know how that went. Sorry to disappoint but, real things sometimes happen to old computers. And no matter how many times you try to force quit nothing happens. Staring at an ever-churning spinning rainbow can make any patient person antsy. Hence the holder post I sent last night. Now let’s follow through with what this post is all about!

The Sketch Bohemian Rhapsody Photo by Skitterphoto on Pexels.com

Hey Everyone, short post today. The other day, I decided to do a sketch. I don’t know about anyone else who sketches but for me sometimes I’m unsure of what or who I will be drawing. My process begins with me scrolling through many different images of famous people. This time after scrolling for a little too long I noticed that I kept going back to the same image. The person I needed to draw this week was Rami Malek. This sketch took me approximately 2 hours.

I could watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody over and over again but alas I have to forego it to… “adult”. Also, I’m now on season 2 of Mr. Robot. Rami is such a great actor.

Take a look at the Gallery and let me know what you think. If you’d like to compare my sketch to the original Please go to my instagram page and take a look. linktr.ee/palmtreesandloyalties

Thank you and have a wonderful week!
