Awwww look at them, living dangerously and biting their ice-cream front teeth first. Aren’t they sweet? Anyway, I’m sure in some previous post I mentioned sensitive or achy teeth, Link here: T’was the Night Before 40 . I have a recurring dream where I smile in front of my bathroom mirror and some of my teeth very eagerly bounce into the sink. Continue reading “WHY’d I Think That Would go Well?”
Casinos are fun. They are like bars but with minimal drinking, lights and a bit more gambling. I thought going there would be like it is in the movies. Bartenders offering drinks and peanuts, all kinds of snacks like Deviled eggs, ice-cream and cereal. The mob inviting people to count their cards. Continue reading “The Baby That Saved Me”
I grew up in an urban area. My mom still encouraged me to learn how to grow plants. I went outside daily, watering a grain of corn. It was fascinating watching it grow from a tiny little thing to just above my twiggy ankles and then to the height of my scrawny waist.
After all that watering, its stalk eventually sprung up and had nearly passed the top of my head. There were even two ears of corn growing now. I ran and asked mom if it was ready to be picked and she told me it probably wasn’t ready yet. I imagined the silk beyond the husk slowly yet very purposefully assembling each and every grain of corn. Finally, as summer was nearing its end, I was told that I could soon pick my corn and it would be ready to eat.
Most years at the end of summer, our final family trip was to the amusement park. On the morning of the trip, I snuck out and watered my corn. I was full blown obsessing over it but, I also didn’t want to hear that it wasn’t ready to eat yet. Against the wall, behind my corn was a twin-size bed board. I paused to wonder when it had been placed there. Oh well, I ran to the front yard and got in the car with my siblings. Dad drove us all to the amusement park.
After going on a few rides the sky went dark, then it rained, and got really windy. We were told by the park “authorities” that a storm would be passing through some nearby towns. We continued with our fun regardless, especially since we knew the storm wasn’t going to touch us at the theme park.
Then we left a little early to stop at Michael Jackson’s house. Call me a liar all you want! We were specifically told that after the theme park we were going to meet Michael Jackson. So, the obvious never even occurred to me.
When we got to Michael Jackson’s house, our parents stood tall behind us all. My older brother and sisters were such skeptics but, I saw them glimpse as the door opened slowly. Hi, how are you? Come in! The amount of disinterest and disappointment that rushed through me was palpable. My siblings pretended that they didn’t share my feelings but I knew they did. He was so far from being Michael Jackson that I’m positive he saw the disappointment on every child’s face. Before you start feeling sorry for him consider this; I’m sure he was used to it with a name like that! And, he most likely had used his name to his advantage more than once in his life. The visit went on and on as they always do as a child. Eventually, we all went home.
As soon as we got home from the house of disappointment, I rushed to the backyard to check on my corn. Only I didn’t see it. There was nothing there. Absolutely nothing. I turned around thinking I missed something but still there was nothing. Until I remembered that stupid bed board! I immediately heard echoes of the park authorities saying, “storms in some nearby towns.” I hadn’t even thought that they meant in our own backyard! The board had been swept sideways by the wind. It had officially squeezed every bit of lively hood out of my corn. All that was left were the tassels of stringy golden silk just beyond the edge of the bed board. They were squished into the mud. My shoes slipped and I fell into the mud as tears streamed down my face. I used all of my strength and tried to pry the board off my corn. My corn had been nurtured from seedling to squashed! But I wasn’t about to give up. I ran inside and yelled for help. Mom came outside explaining how sorry she was. She also explained that there was no way of knowing that a storm like that blah blah blah! I couldn’t really hear over my tears as sobbing. She then explained something else inaudible about it not being garbage day yet and that there wasn’t anywhere else to put it. Whatever she said it didn’t console me at all. Still, every time I see corn growing in a field it brings me back to that dark, rainy, windy afternoon.
Love corn will never grow it!
But, I will always have the story of when I met Michael Jackson.

Does anyone else sit around staring at their phone rather than doing the things they really enjoy? Or watching Netflix and focusing on what the characters say, do or live through? Often times thoughts and ideas pass through my mind without ever getting out. I don’t write, speak or draw anything for days on end. Its people watching to the extreme extent, very zombielike!
On a longish side note, for those of you in a rush feel free to skip to the next paragraph: I’m very proud to say that I conquered a fear within the last 2 weeks. I watched The Haunting of Hill House. I even watched it at night. Yeah, I really did it! I had quite a few nightmares but I figured I’m up at night anyway, what harm could it do? I watched most of it just like this young lady to the right. Through one eye but with so much more fear in my heart and all over my face. Don’t judge me! It was such a great show glad I got through it. Now that its over I am going through withdrawal. It is sad when the good shows end.
The truth is, sometimes it’s the distractions but often times it’s fear that prevents me from doing the creative things I enjoy. Or even self-doubt that creeps in. I start thinking that I don’t have anything worth looking at or writing! Nothing to keep readers interested or coming back. I often conquer this by just starting something, anything, once I start all is good. Most times starting is all it takes.
Remember this when you feel unmotivated to be creative. Remember that everyone feels that way sometimes. Blogging takes guts! Find that motivation no matter how far you have to dig, keep on blogging.

“Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
I Went to a drive-in movie for the first time last night. What an experience! At first, I didn’t want to see Christopher Robin. But it ended up really speaking to me. The part that I can’t get out of my mind was when Winnie the Pooh asked Christopher Robin, “What day is it today?” and Christopher Robin responded… “It’s today.” And Pooh replied “my favorite day!” Continue reading “Happy Today!”

Psst hey, have you heard of mindful eating or intuitive eating and drinking? It’s all over the internet and in every magazine. We all tend to eat while doing many different things:
- Playing on our phones,
- Watching t.v.
Lately, I do it too. I shove food into my mouth and gulp drinks without tasting or truly enjoying the flavours or the textures. Mindful eating is about paying attention to the food or drink that we have chosen to partake in. You know, fully taking the time to enjoy every bite or sip. Like we all used to when we were kids. I haven’t been blogging much lately which has led me to question, why I started blogging in the first place. Hmmmmm.
- To prove to myself that I can write. Of course, it was scary at first because what isn’t?
- Simply, to write and develop my writing style.
- To re-experience memories that I had hidden even from myself.
- Oh, I also started blogging to laugh at myself and share some of my life experiences.
- The main reasons why I started blogging was because, I am that person right beside you at school, work, on the subway or even at a random store not needing to say much but quietly waiting to interject with some outlandish view often different from what everyone else’s.
Now…Why did you start blogging?

Have you heard of radical acceptance? I’ve been trying it out for a while now. What a great concept. Basically, it’s accepting the things that you have no control over without resistance. By resistance I mean, for example, going to the store and your favorite hash browns are not in stock for weeks at a time. You can:
a) Be angry, and throw yourself fitfully on the floor in the frozen food aisle like I may have done so once or twice very, very long ago. Continue reading “Radical Acceptance”

It’s a sunny Wednesday. I’m in the middle of the big city. Out for a day of exploring. While I look around and take everything in, literally everyone is busy looking at their phones. So what, I’m out here alone? I literally feel like I am out here alone…yet I’m around so many people. I can’t stand this!
What a waste of an outfit, a day, a smile. What happened to paying attention to what’s going on around you?
What happened to being in the… Oh sorry I have to take this!……….
