When I was little, I used to think that the tiny little lizards that sometimes scurried quickly around our home were crocodiles.
When I was little, I used to sometimes lay on the floor and imagine what it would be like to walk on the ceiling. I would dodge every flush light and feel the popcorn ceiling crustiness between my toes.
When I was little, I used to think that if I was ever alone, the world would end and I would be the only person left on earth.
When I was little, I was so afraid of elevators that I would leave home 1 hour before it was time for school so I wouldn’t have to take the elevator alone. I would ride down to the first floor with my elder siblings so I wouldn’t have to ride alone. Then, I would wait in the front lobby of our building to see my friends crossing the street and meet them outside as though I wasn’t waiting for an hour.
When I was little, I would pretend that I wore braces. It was a great past time for me to push staples between the gaps in my teeth. Now, I honestly wonder how I never choked.
When I was little, I wanted to wear glasses so badly. I would often try on a few pairs when I went into a store where glasses were sold. (Who am I kidding? I still do this!)
When I was little, I used to think that life would be great when I was big. Funny thing is…now I just wish I was little again.
