Phobias, some people have so many of them and some people don’t seem to have any. A phobia is a group of anxiety symptoms that occur when a person comes across certain objects or situations. I cruised the internet and found a few phobias, some of them are more common than others. If reading this triggers anyone my apologies. My intention is to open a line of discussion.
Somniphobia
Coulrophobia
Aichmophobia
Trypanophbia
Catoptrophobia
Koumpounophobia
Ormithophobia
Technophobia
Dooms Day phobia
Somniphobia – The fear of going to bed or sleep related worry. I had no idea there was an actual name for this one. But I do know quite a few people who suffer from this.
Coulrophobia – This is one of mine. I described it to you all in a previous post. My phobia of clowns. I got through watching IT 2 last night and although the first one was scarier than the second I still thought twice before making my usual trip to the bathroom in the wee hours of the night.

Aichmophobia – Fear of sharp objects. I can relate to this one since I have Trypanophbia which is, the fear of needles. One day I will delve deep and figure out why but not today guys! Just not today!
Catoptrophobia – The fear of mirrors. I have never heard of this one before. Anywhere from an elevator, a public washroom or even a fitting room could potentially have a mirror in it. This phobia even has the potential to make driving impossible.
Genuphobia – Fear of knees. I had never heard of this one before today or Koumpounophobia – which is the fear of buttons. I had no idea Steve Jobs had this.
Ornithophobia – Fear of birds. Glad to say, I’ve gotten over my fear to a point. Im now good with small birds. Yet, large birds still make my feet sweat.

Technophobia – I have heard countless boomers express this fear. In doing the research for this post I understand this phobia more. Did you know that most of us have had this phobia when confronted with new technology? It happened to me when I got my first iPhone and again when I decided to start this blog.
Then last but not least there is the Dooms Day phobia. All I have to say is Y2K. I was really frightened at the end of 1999.
People have phobias that you may not understand. It’s important to take them seriously and not judge. As mentioned above, I even have a few phobias that I have no idea how they were formulated. And a few more that I just don’t like talking about. Do any of you have phobias?
Thanks for reading and have a great week!
have a friend who has a phobia of getting lost in big public places! Is their a name for that?
Somniphobia? I never realized that was what I have or that there was a name for it.
I’m not so sure what that ones called. But getting lost in public places is frightening especially if you are alone.
Thank you for this informative post! I know someone who has a phobia of being sick and dealing with it
Oh my. Yeah phobias can be a lot to get through. For myself, the more I get sick = the more I want to avoid getting sick. 🥺
