1 Trend That’ll Change Your Grocery Shopping Game

Since the missing produce bag incident, I decided to go back to doing my grocery shopping. Every Saturday, I would get up and go. While entering the grocery store I was usually happy or excited about picking up the things I needed for the coming week. But then I’d get to the cereal aisle. Why is there always a screaming child on the floor in this aisle? Parents mouths agape, eyes large with frustration. Why don’t these antics happen elsewhere? For once, I want to see a 6-year old throw himself on the floor for some Energy Star LED light bulbs! I quickly ran in and grabbed what I needed to avoid becoming a witness to whatever was about to go down.

After paying for my groceries, I made the same narrow escape I always did and left the grocery store right as the crowds were coming in. Then I saw it. A gentleman standing outside his car while paying for his groceries, a stacked cart full of groceries and the trunk of the car was open. A lady was putting his groceries into the trunk of the car as he paid. I thought wow! He must be rich to be using that service! Good for him.

You know me well enough to know that was not the end of it for me. For the rest of the day plus a few more months of going to the grocery store, I kept seeing it. It was like when you notice something and then it’s all that you see. Every weekend people were in the express pick up parking spaces picking up their groceries without going inside the grocery store.

Finally, I bit the bullet and found out how much the service cost. It wasn’t expensive. The way I look at it was that I would be saving time which freed me up to do the things that I love to do rather than the things I have to do. Therefore, it’s worth it! So, I went through basically the same process as before:

  • Choose the groceries the day before on the app.
  • Choose a time and location for pick up.
  • Get to the grocery store.
  • Park in a spot reserved for grocery pickup
  • Dial a number and let them know I’m here and wait

I always check to see if produce bags are used since that was previously the straw that broke the camels back. I’m assuming that the person who picked the groceries is the same one who brings them out to the car. She and I placed the groceries in the trunk which is perfect because I can let her know if something isn’t to my liking. This is the solution to all of my grocery woes. They always ask if it’s ok to substitute before I pick up the order. Now people look at me as I pay for my groceries in the parking lot. I’m sure some of them may think I’m lazy. That judgment lofts over my head as I save my valuable non-refundable time.

Relax, lay down!

I can proudly tell you all that as of November 9th, 2019, I have not been inside a grocery store. I go to the grocery store parking lot and pick up my groceries which takes approximately 15 minutes or less. I now have time to do the things I enjoy and I’m not going back, at least not for now!

Be sure to check out the gallery to see what new. If you have this option in your area I urge you to try it.

Have a great week!
